During Paul Stacey's wrap up session at our May 6 gathering many topics for future online activities were proposed. These could be scheduled asynchronous discussions, web conferences, resources we build together, partnerships, regular online get-togethers... other ideas?

I combined my notes with Nancy's but we may have missed some, and you may have thought of more since May 6 so please add to/revise/refine the list!
  1. Continue with the Quarterly Virtual Field Trips we began after OCE 2009
  2. Getting Started
  3. Types of communities (Wenger: purpose, practice)
  4. Decisions: open/closed/small/big...
  5. Digital Habitats: workshop - technology steward workbook
  6. Something structured on Digital Habitats book
  7. Bring our challenges forward / strategies for working through challenges (peer assist?)
  8. Themed discussions around challenges raised during OCE2010
  9. Performance management, return on investment, quantitative and qualitative measures
  10. How do I know if my community is VIBRANT? Quality of life indicators / success indicators
  11. Link with Knowledge Management group (performance management a big topic right now)
  12. Story based evaluation

@Currie @junek Ah! Must be gearing up for #OCE2010 http://scope.bccampus.ca/course/view.php?id=12

I showed up to OCE2010 with my camera but left the battery in the charger at the hotel. Thankfully other enthusiasts were more on the ball! If you upload to Flickr be sure to tag your photos OCE2010. You can also attach photos to forum posts here, or upload elsewhere and just tell us where to look. D'Arcy posted this fabulous photo yesterday. I can't stop looking at it!

There were some active note takers in the room, too. Anything you can share here will be appreciated. approve

I'm busy unrolling Nancy's drawings so I can capture the gems in there. Alice typed up the sticky notes from the 'working across boundaries' discussions and will post them next week when she gets off the sail boat.
Thanks so much Emma and Kyra for sharing your work with us and facilitating this seminar. As I mentioned via email to Emma and Kyra, people are eager to use the videos in their own practice, and to make them available through libraries for faculty resource collections.

During our second live session we only touched on some of the many workshop activities that would be appropriate for faculty developers to take away to implement at their own institutions. And we also thought about how valuable a series of online faculty workshops would be! For sure we need to think about ways to continue this dialogue about culturally diverse learners. And if you are using these resources in your own Emma and Kyra would love to hear about it! Feel free to post any feedback here. Emma also mentioned to me that there is a Facebook Group -- link will be posted soon.

Our next seminar is all about portfolios. Roselynn Verwoord and Catherine Paul will be introducing us to the Portfolio Community of Practice at University of British Columbia, and showing some portfolios developed by members of that community. Mark your calendars for May 24 - June 4.
In just over a week we'll be heading to the Roundhouse in Vancouver for our 2nd annual gathering of online community enthusiasts! All of the pieces are falling into place nicely. Just in case you haven't checked the Community Enthusiasts SIG lately, we've been updating the planning wiki here.

From the responses to the RSVP poll, combined with personal email, I counted 34 "yes, I'll be there" and "hope so, will decide later" for the OCE2010 gathering. You can change your response in the poll so be sure to post your final decision this week. Also, if you invited colleagues and think their names should be on that list, be sure to remind them. We'll be pretty close to reaching the maximum our venue will accommodate.

Some of you have asked if laptops are required for the day. Not at all necessary! We'll have many other technologies for you to use: paper, chalk, markers, post-its...

If you have any questions at all be sure to ask. I have one: Anybody with food allergies?
