We'll be meeting up with Brent Lee today at noon PDT (check your time zone) to dig into this topic of Educational Uses of iPads a little more. Special thanks goes to Gina Bennett from College of the Rockies for moderating for us!

See you there!
Welcome to Educational Uses of iPads!

About this seminar
In lecture halls and libraries, on the bus or at the beach, what makes the iPad a good fit for teaching and learning? We'll spend the next couple of weeks thinking about the educational uses of iPads. In addition to this asynchronous forum discussion we have scheduled 2 one-hour sessions in Elluminate each Wednesday at 19:00 GMT (12:00 PDT).

What if you don't own an iPad, you ask? No worries! There's still lots to talk about if you've been thinking about the potential of the iPad or similar mobile computers for learning.

About our facilitator
Brent Lee is one of the busiest people I know! He is an educational technologist and instructional designer in the Teaching and Learning Centre, as well as faculty in the Information Technology and Applied Systems department at Vancouver Island University. He also consults on many projects and is an active software developer.

Off we go! Brent has already kicked off with a couple interesting questions. As always, feel free to start your own discussion threads with new topics as well.

Thanks to Emma Duke-Williams AGAIN we have a Flashmeeting room for tomorrow's video conference.

The plan for this session is to review the two minute "intro" videos we all created. (Ah hem...clearing throat thoughtful) If you have time before tomorrow to upload your video PLEASE DO! But of course there is no pressure.

As in the previous 2 weeks our meeting time is 11:00 PDT, 18:00 GMT (check your time zone). The link and details are posted in the Wiki. If you have any questions, just ask!

Create a 2-minute "intro" video. This can be on any topic... perhaps something that you are really passionate about? Or a short clip you could use to encourage people to take your course?

We will gather up these videos and talk about the process in our session next week. I'll set up a YouTube channel for this project and post more details later today. Meanwhile, ask questions and share your tips and software suggestion!

During the September 13 video conference Jesai suggested we take a little time this week to prepare our environment. In this this document, Humanizing U (PDF), he offers advice for background and lighting. It really makes a difference!

We're working on a plan to try a different platform for the Week 2 web conference so stay tuned! The time will still be 11:00am PDT / 18:00 GMT
