Use GenAI to create an OER
Learning Objective:
Participants will enhance their ability to leverage Generative AI to develop targeted questions from academic content, fostering efficient resource creation for higher education.
Purpose:
This challenge showcases how Generative AI can streamline the process of creating educational resources by generating questions directly from a PDF. Participants will explore how AI can assist in designing questions that align with specific academic levels and learning objectives, while emphasizing the importance of human review to ensure accuracy and relevance. This exercise encourages educators to thoughtfully integrate AI in their teaching materials, balancing innovation with the need for careful oversight.
Challenge:
Using Generative AI to help create open educational resources has the potential to significantly reduce the time and effort typically required to develop these materials. In this challenge, which I developed in collaboration with Will Engle, you will create a single one-page section for an open textbook in your discipline or area of expertise.
Let's do it!
Use a Generative AI model, such as ChatGPT-4, Claude, or LLaMA, to create a single-page section for an open textbook in your field. Choose a topic where you have expertise and can effectively evaluate the content.
[Sample Prompt: As a psychology professor, write a 1000-word, highly detailed textbook section for first-year college students on the science and theory of happiness. Include learning objectives at the beginning and a glossary of key terms at the end.]
Assess the text for accuracy, bias, and overall quality. Reflect on whether this content could serve as an open educational resource.
Example:
I used the sample prompt above and generated a chapter section.https://https://lnkd.in/gmhH6ZvS
