Here's a quick history...

SCoPE was launched four years ago with a discussion about how to get started. We had spent several months at Simon Fraser University's (then called) eLearning Innovation Centre undergoing research, planning, and design activities to inform our choices about platform, core activities, and initial preparation of the community environment. Then in September, 2005 we threw open the doors and started talking about next steps. Since then we've maintained this tradition of annual "next steps" discussions.

Over the years we've organized 45 seminar discussions on topics that have emerged through our participation, created 47 Special Interest Group (SIG) spaces, and hosted an online conference. We have 2,842 members (not all active, of course!) who have generated approximately 11,000 forum posts. Over 90 members have volunteered to facilitate discussions.

Since 2008 SCoPE has been hosted and fully supported by BCcampus, a collaborative online learning initiative established to assist public post-secondary institutions in British Columbia meet their students’ online learning needs. BCcampus recognizes the importance of international online communities and opportunities for dialogue to advance our understanding of learning and teaching.

So thanks to the many volunteers, active members, and collaborating partnerships, we've accomplished quite a lot over the years!
