1. SCoPE Seminar: Collaborative Projects on WikiEducator
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
August 10-28, 2009
Facilitators: Nellie Deutsch and Gladys Gahona
Gladys Gahona and Nellie Deutsch have been collaborating online at WikiEducator, an international community dedicated to the design, development, and delivery of free content for learning. In this seminar they will introduce us to the many opportunities available to educators to learn from others, to collaborate on curriculum projects, and to explore new technologies that will improve educational access and quality.
There are several scheduled events and peripheral activities during these three weeks. TODAY Randy Fisher will be taking us on a virtual field trip of WikiEducator at 22:00 GMT in Elluminate. Check the seminar forum description for up-to-date details of all live sessions.
1. SCoPE Seminar: Exploring Networks of Communities
July 6 - 24, 2009
Facilitators: Diego Leal and John Smith
When does it make sense to have a network of communities? How do you go about supporting a network of communities? This 3-week seminar was an initial exploration around the topic of networks of communities. We combined a forum discussion with 6 live "case study" sessions from 4 countries where we heard from community leaders in higher education. We're gathering the main questions, considerations, and participation information into a wiki.
* Check seminar archives, as well as the recordings of live sessions organized through BCcampus Online Communities.
4. Virtual Field Trips
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
During the Community Enthusiasts event in Vancouver, BC in May, 2009 we decided that the opportunity to visit communities with the help of a tour guide, and using a specific framework as a lens on the community, would be an excellent mutual exchange among community leaders and enthusiasts. Tourists (enthusiasts) can get ideas and insights from seeing other communities, and the tour guides (leaders) can benefit from the expertise of the enthusiasts. As mentioned above as part of the August seminar, our first field trip will showcase WikiEducator. The Virtual Field Trip project is organized in collaboration with CPSquare, and we will continue to design and refine as we gain experience with this format for exploring communities together. Information about this project is being developed on the CPSquare Wiki.
