October Activities

Instructional Skills Workshop Online
7 October - 8 November, 2013
Facilitators: Tracy Kelly and B.J. Eib
This 5-week online workshop helps instructors develop the skills to effectively facilitate learning in online environments. We've reached our enrolment limit of 15 participants from the British Columbia post-secondary system for this offering, but more workshops are planned for the future.

Supporting Others While Supporting Ourselves
16-19 October, 2013
Facilitators: Brenda Kaulback, Lisa Levinson, Doris Reeves-Lipscomb
With the new learning designs’ emphasis on self-directed learning, facilitators and learners alike often grapple with navigating the new terrain. In what ways can we as learning professionals in various settings support the new learner? Plan to join the discussion! This event takes place at CPsquare. Details will be posted there soon.

New Groups

Campus-Based Educational Development and Professional Learning
Facilitators: Nancy Randall, Diane Morrison, Penny Heaslip
The dialogue continues! This report summarizes the purposes and outcomes of campus-based educational development and professional learning in British Columbia. We invite feedback and ideas on future directions and dilemmas.

Footprints of Emergence
Facilitators: Jenny Mackness, Roy Williams
As part of their ongoing research, and a follow-on to an ALT-C workshop called "Learning in the Open" held earlier this month, Jenny and Roy invite you to continue to explore the question: How can we describe, design, research, and reflect upon the dynamics of how people are learning in new open networks?

Virtual Communities of Practice: A Netnographic Study of Peer-to-Peer Networking Support Among Doctoral Students
Facilitator: Ila Allen
Are you a doctoral student (or recent grad)? Ila Allen invites you to participate in her study to explore why doctoral students seek support outside of their home institution via online communities. Completion of a questionnaire and one-on-one interview is all it takes!

Visual Facilitation Workshop
Facilitators: Michelle Laurie and Nancy White
This is a 2-day event organized in collaboration with University of British Columbia, takes place 26-27 September. The workshop is full but you may be intersted in watching the SCoPE group space for some interesting harvests!
