1. Today! Implementing Mobile Technologies

Join Susan Crichton and Brown Onguko from University of Calgary for a 90-minute interactive web conference. This session is part of our Professional Learning Series, organized by BCcampus, eCampusAlberta, and Alberta North.

2. Learning and Knowledge Analytics

January 10 - February 20, 2011

We are moving into week 4 of LAK11, a 6-week open course that serves as an introduction to the growing field of analytics in teaching, learning, training, development, and organizational knowledge. The focus this week is on visualization tools and examples. It's not too late to join the 647 people who signed up to learn more about learning and knowledge analytics! There are many ways to participate, so if you need help finding your way around don't hesitate to ask.

3. OER university
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
February 16 - March 2, 2011
Facilitator: Paul Stacey
On February 23 UNESCO is sponsoring a live web stream of the inaugural meeting to be held at Otago Polytechnic, New Zealand to discuss OER for assessment and credit for students. The 2-week SCoPE seminar before and after this meeting is intended to generate discussion and input on the context, problem, concept, partners, and objectives of an OER university, as well as an opportunity for summary, follow-on discussions, and recommendations.

6. Activity Recap

* We summarized the December Motivation and Adult Learning Online seminar, facilitated by Firat Sarsar, by organizing contributions based on four themes: 1) what is motivation? 2) motivational factors 3) promoting motivation, and 4) measuring motivation.

* If you missed the Open Educational Resources web conference with Paul Stacey, the recording and presentation slides are available.

7. PeriSCoPE

* You are invited to join these 2 University of Northern British Columbia campus sessions with Paul Stacey via Elluminate on February 3, 2011: 1) The Opportunity Side of Open and 2) Finding and Using Open Educational Resources.

* Registration is open for Canada Moodle Moot 2010! Proposals are accepted until February 25, 2011. Present/participate online or on location in Edmonton, Alberta.

* The next CIDER Session is 'The use of online role play for teaching and assessing interpersonal skills', February 2, 2011. CIDER sessions are targeted at distance education researchers, graduate students, and practitioners. Each session features an active researcher talking about their project, methodologies used, and their results.

* The list of webinars is growing! Plan to attend 2011 Connecting Online conference a free, online conference February 4-6, 2011.

* SCoPE member Curt Bonk has published 27 videos addressing the design and best practices of Distance Education courses.

* Norm Friesen's article Education and the social Web: Connective learning and the commercial imperative is available in the December issue of First Monday.

* The next WikiEducator Learning4Content Online Workshop runs February 2-15, 2011.

* Space is available in the 2011 Graphic Facilitation Workshop located in Rossland, British Columbia, July 13-15, 2011.

8. About SCoPE

SCoPE brings together individuals who share an interest in educational research and practice, and offers opportunities for dialogue across disciplines, geographical borders, professions, levels of expertise, and education sectors. Our activities are facilitated by volunteers in the community, and membership is free and open to everyone. Past SCoPE seminar discussions and other open events are always available for reading and afterthoughts. We welcome requests to host or promote professional development activities related to teaching and learning.

SCoPE forms collaborating partnerships with many organizations to implement and promote community activities and products. This is a mutual exchange of support and services.
