1. Motivation and Adult Learning Online

Our December seminar is underway! What motivates adult learners? What are the barriers? How do we measure motivation? Join us to explore definitions of motivation, and factors and ideas for motiving adults in the online learning environment.
2. Blastoff - Taking Education into OERbit

Join Paul Stacey on the Starship BCcampus in this journey through the universe of Open Educational Resources (OER). Learn how OER are opening up a new education frontier. Visit OER colonies throughout education space and see for yourself what an OER is and how they are being used to create credentials. Find out how you can use OER in your own teaching and learning practice. Discover how the future of OER is being shaped by Foundations, public government Ministries, and everyday educators who simply choose to become OER space cadets. Buckle up as Paul takes you into OERbit! This session is part of the Professional Learning Series organized by BCcampus, eCampusAlberta, and Alberta North.
3. Special Interest Groups (SIGS)

We welcome all new members of the Learn Together Collaboratory Special Interest Group. We had a very productive meeting in Vancouver on November 29, 2010 to discuss next steps for this project.
During the Educational Uses of iPads seminar facilitated by Brent Lee, participants requested that the discussion continue in a SIG. Watch for the launch in the new year!
We welcome requests for public or private spaces in SCoPE for your group or project.
4. Adaptech Research Network

The Adaptech Research Network launched a redesigned website. Visit adaptech.org to learn about and access information on research, publications, and the popular library of free or inexpensive software. The archive of the 2006 SCoPE Accessibility of eLearning seminar, facilitated by Catherine Fichten and Jennison Asuncion from the Adaptech Research Network, is worth a revisit as well!
5. Mark Your Calendars

* For the next Quarterly Field Trip, to be scheduled in early January, we will visit Farm Radio, a Canadian-based, not-for-profit organization working in direct partnership with approximately 330 radio broadcasters in 39 African countries to fight poverty and food insecurity. Field Trips are visits to living communities organized in collaboration with CPSquare, the community of practice on communities of practice.

* The call for presentations is open for Canada Moodle Moot 2010. Present/participate online or on location in Edmonton, Alberta.
* The next CIDER Session is Supporting Online Teachers: Moving Pedagogical Know-How into Virtual Classrooms, January 5, 2011. CIDER sessions are targeted at distance education researchers, graduate students, and practitioners. Each session features an active researcher talking about their project, methodologies used, and their results.
* The 2011 Connecting Online conference is February 4-6, 2011
* IntegratingTechnology for Active Lifelong Learning (IT4ALL) offers online workshops and web talks on a variety of topics.
7. About SCoPE

SCoPE brings together individuals who share an interest in educational research and practice, and offers opportunities for dialogue across disciplines, geographical borders, professions, levels of expertise, and education sectors. Our activities are facilitated by volunteers in the community, and membership is free and open to everyone. Past SCoPE seminar discussions are always available for reading and afterthoughts.
SCoPE forms collaborating partnerships with many organizations to implement and promote community activities and products. This is a mutual exchange of support and services.
