Hi there, I am Alvaro H Galvis, Colombian citizen and resident in USA. My background is in Systems' and Computing Engineering, and my doctorate is in Adult Education. My areas of expertise are integration of technologies in education, faculty professional development, and educational innovations.

I am a faculty member at the Winston-Salem State University, a HBCU university in North Carolina. I am the director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, an organization focused on helping faculty grow professionally and be more effective as teachers and researchers on teaching, with and without use of digital technologies.

During seven years I was a senior researcher at the Concord Consortium (CC), a non profit organization that does research and development on educational uses of computers. I led the research component of The Seeing Math project (video case-based math professional development) , and created CAPTIC and CONGENIA (video-based communities of practice in elementary education).

Before coming to USA in 2001 I was a faculty member at Universidad de Los Andes, in Bogota, Colombia, where I was a full professor at the Computer Science Department. Since 1985 I became the leader of LIDIE, a research and development laboratory on educational uses of computers. One of our projects, LUDOMATICA (Playful and Creative Learning Environments for Kids under Risk Condition) won the Global Bangemann Prize from the Stocholm City Major in 1999.
