Case: Design Disaster? - Wiki 1

Here's the situation: You are on deck to mentor the group who is facilitating the mini-session that involves the use of wikis; it's intended to explore the questions

  1. How/can adult learners get their needs met online?
  2. What affordances exist online that match up well with what we know about adult learners?
  3. What challenges exist about online that are of special concern to the online adult learner?

A huge challenge for ISWO participants is facilitating this activity without using a forum.

Being an excellent ISWO facilitator, you have reviewed the backpocket strategy in advance. You have reached out to the pair of facilitators for this mini-session to offer your support in their planning.  You get an email back, as follows:

Hi [Your Name Here]

We are so excited about facilitating with a wiki! We've done a ton of research and playing around, and we've set up our wiki. Would you have a look at it, and give us your feedback?

Our general plan is to have one page for each of the key questions, and make sure the instructions were laid out up front.  We want everyone to add their ideas, which will create a summary of responses to each question, on each page.

One technical problem: my partner did the set up and now he's out of town at a conference, so I can't figure out how to create the last page. Can you help?!

Instructions for FDWO participants assigned to Wiki 1:

  • go review the wiki this team has set up
  • Mon - Thu - pairs discuss your approach and response.  You may use the team forum, or any other method you like to connect (e.g., Collaborate, Skype, phone, email, coffee shop...). Don't know who your partner is? Check the schedule
  • Fri (pm): Post your response to the class forum for this case
