  • Please review the ISWO Facilitator Checklist for "Pre-course" items below (complete checklist is here )
  • Bold indicates items you're already doing in another activity in FDWO (e.g. you have been asked to "do a once over" of the ISWO and create an introductory post)
  • Choose at least one other item (besides the bold ones) from the checklist and do them.  There are tips for how to proceed in the right column, with resources to help.
  • Let us know how it went! Post your results to the forum

How you could try this in FDWO
Note: There is an ISWO Sandbox site for you to play in

Do a once over on the course to see what’s old - update facilitator names etc. / Remove any customization from last time around (especially things added to support a specific mini-session)

This is part of the "Getting Started" activities in Week 1 - you're already doing this one - check!

Update course schedule

Go to the ISWO Sandbox and try out editing text in the course schedule. Don't worry about making a mess, that's what the Sandbox site is for.

Is the Collaborate room up to date?

Redo navigation screencast if necessary

Try making a short navigation screencast with screenr

Each facilitator creates introductory video (voiceover PowerPoint, VoiceThread, video, etc.) to introduce themselves in the introductions forum. Each do different format with meta-level analysis at end. Tell them our learning style? Make sure it’s posted before participants get access to the course

You are already ask to do this one as an an activity in FDWO Week 1 - check!

Book time in our schedules for ISWO, perhaps for office hours in Skype each week as well. Also add into our moodle profile.

If you know when you are teaching ISWO, you could block the time.

And/or you could update your moodle profile with your office hours (real or fake ones). This will take 2 minutes or less.

Ensure copyright permissions for readings

Decide if should hide Weeks 2-5 when we open the course so they don't get overwhelmed. (Open early in Week 1)

Go to the ISWO Sandbox and try "hiding" and "un-hiding units". Here's on how to do this. He gets to units specifically about 2 min in.

Create a poll (moode, or Doodle poll) and ensure link is visible early in the course so we can firm up a time for the Collaborate session to happen (usually Tues or Wed in Week 1.) OR select the date yourselves and post. Add this to course schedule, too

Go the the ISWO Sandbox and create a "choice" (that's the Moodle term for what we all call a "poll". Here's a how-to.

Work on PowerPoint slides for Collaborate session in Week 1

Go to the sample slide deck we have provided for the Week 1 Collaborate session in ISWO Facilitator Resources.   Update these slides to suit yourself (e.g., at minimum, you'll want to replace the RRU branding, but you might also have other edits you'd like to make for your ISWO kick-off session.

Facilitator starts threads (two of them) in Online Community Building forum: one for images and one for reactions to readings. Call them “thread 1” and “thread 2” because the text indicates they will be called this.

Go to the ISWO Sandbox and create two threads in the appropriate forum.
