Welcome to week 1 of the Instructional Skills Workshop Online!

By now we have

  • checked out the "How to get started" page on the first page you saw when you entered the course site,
  • looked at the General Schedule to get an overview of the course,
  • read the Course Outline to understand what the course is all aboutand what you'll be learning and doing in the next five weeks,
  • reviewed the Course Schedule to get the important dates and to find out what mini-session you'll be facilitating...

*** (Note:  If you haven't, please go back and do that now.)***

Tips for Time Use

1) Plan to take this course 8 -15 hours a week is a "good rule of thumb" .. establish your course dates, time for participation , times for reading and times for group connections .. look at the long time line  of the course and the short time lines of each week

Map out your time

2) Remember that the course is designed to run from Wednesday to Wednesday so that weekend attendees do not feel they are "on the end of what happened"

3 ) each week, be prepared to be involved in a group activity - you may be a participant in a mini-session, a facilitator of a mini-session or be asked to contribute to a group project (i.e., Week 1).

Don't forget to introduce yourself in Week 1 inthe Introductions Discussion Forum!
Scheduling Time

3) There are ongoing activities each week; allow time for them as you plan each week.  videos  to watch , readings to read, thoughts to build and then reflect on .

Don't forget to check into the Open Discussion Forum to review any of the topics under discussion. Feel free to set up a topic thread if youwant to explore an idea or question that comes up for you during the week.

Ongoing activities

4) Get prepared for Week 1!  It will be a full week. Check the detailed ISWO Schedule. Make sure you know what to do. We've prepared a quick checklist that might help you.
