INVITATION: Learn Together Collaboratory - Next Steps November 29, 2010
Dear Colleagues:
We're pleased to provide this invitation to a one-day meeting Monday November 29, 2010 to bring together representatives from all 25 BC post-secondary Teaching and Learning Centres.
Over the past few years, as part of its role to generate connections, collaborations and innovation across BC's public post secondary sector BCcampus has organized meetings of various groups involved in faculty development and educational technology. Meetings have included representatives from the Educational Technology Users Group (ETUG), University College Institution Professional Developers (UCIPD), and Northern Education Developers Network (NEDNet) and others. These meetings culminated in the development of the Learn Together Collaboratory http://ltc.bccampus.ca and several related professional learning initiatives.
Over the course of this activity new affiliate groups have emerged, new teaching and learning centres created at institutions, and the configuration of teaching and learning centres at other campuses changed. In light of these changes and the progress made on BCcampus supported professional learning initiatives it seems opportune to collectively review where things are at and determine next steps. The November 29th meeting will serve as an opportunity to review the Learn Together Collaboratory and other initiatives with individuals leading faculty development programs, and to formulate a plan for future collaborative work in creating a network of teaching and learning centres across the province.

9:30 – 9:45 Welcome Introductions, context and purpose of the day
9:45 - 10:30 Updates from Teaching and Learning Centres on goals, activities and developments
10:30 - 11:15 BCcampus review and summary of Learn Together Collaboratory initiative to date including:
Revisit initial six areas of collaborative development
- Communication and dissemination
- Shared resources
- Expertise inventory
- Learning Paths
- Research (scholarship)
- Leadership, Advocacy, & Celebration (showcase)
Status on implementation and use.
11:15 – 12:00 Discussion of relevance and synergy of original six areas of collaborative development to current teaching and learning centres goals, activities and developments.
12:00 – 1:00 Lunch
1:00 – 1:45 Brainstorm and discussion of possible additional or alternative collaborative activities. Prioritization and consensus on which ones to pursue collaboratively.
1:45 – 2:45 Formulation of working groups, identification of requirements.
2:45 – 3:15 Planning next steps.
3:15 – 3:30 Conclusion
Portions of this event will be webcast (login to Elluminate here) and a discussion forum will be established in the BCcampus SCoPE online community http://scope.bccampus.ca to facilitate participation and input from as many representatives of teaching and learning centres as possible.
Registration and Travel
Up to two representatives from each Teaching and Learning Centre are invited to attend the face-to-face event. BCcampus will cover travel and accommodation for one representative from each out-of-town post secondary institution. Lower mainland participants must cover their own costs associated with attending this event.
