Dr. Iain Doherty, University of Auckland

Ian DohertyThis session summarizes three year’s of research into providing effective and engaging distance education for students enrolled on a taught postgraduate course in a Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. We will explain our research approach with reference to a model of scholarly teaching. We will then explain the design, development and delivery of the course whilst making particular reference to engaging students in authentic learning activities and creating the conditions for online interaction. Our paper concludes by showing the applicability of our research results to a broader distance education context.
