Today's Instructions
Welcome to day 2!
Today's focus involves a personal look at what is within our scope of practice as educators or other professionals. Understanding what 'lane we should be in' is an important piece to maintaining boundaries that are within our job description and wheelhouse of expertise. As Karen Costa quite comically states in the podcast and template document, role clarity is equally important for educators and learners because you don't want the wrong person doing the thing they aren't qualified for.
There are three documents for your consideration today. The first is the Karen Costa podcast on Teaching in Higher Ed. In it, she provides some background on how she developed the scope of practice document and how she finds it helpful for faculty and students. Below the podcast link you will find the template she designed with instructions. I invite you to follow her 5 simple steps to reflect on your own scope of practice.
Finally, I have uploaded an example of my scope of practice document, recently created using the template.
I feel that this is a pretty personal activity so only share what you feel comfortable sharing in tomorrow's discussion forum. You may want to focus more on the process of the activity, than on the outcomes. It's also important to acknowledge that scope of practice and their resulting boundaries are likely change over time and contexts. More on fluidity in boundaries on Day 4 (Thursday).
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
