Hey everyone!

I am Jason Toal, a Creative Learning Designer, Educational Technologist and Artist. (or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof)

As you can see from this video, I try to bring a human-centred approach to technology education and a passion for producing accessible learning experiences. L O L

Brent and I are excited to facilitate our latest FLO microcourse on "A.I. Images in the Classroom," and we want to give a shout-out to BC Campus for hosting this conversation.

As we mentioned in the syllabus, we will explore the ethical complexities of this fast-evolving technology, issues like bias, ownership, and the future of creativity. or whatever it is I am doing now.

As an artist, I have had difficulty fully accepting that AI-generated images will be a part of our future in education and beyond. I have tried to experiment and find ways to use AI in my creative practices. I will share one with you on Day 1 of this course!

One aspect that simply FASCINATES me about using words to create images is observing how the machine interprets my prompts. I find my background in the arts serves me well, as I am familiar with many different artistic styles, and I can explain artsy concepts like “contrasting colour palettes’ and know what the result will be. hahaha

If everyone's visual vocabulary expands as they learn about the world of art and design by using A.I. tools, then I am all for it.

Plenty of science is out there telling us that a picture is worth a thousand words, as our brains can process images up to sixty thousand times faster than words alone. We literally think in images!

Does this mean I have to write an essay every time I want to make an image in A.I.? I hope not!

This is one of the many questions I hope we can explore together over the next week, thanks for joining us, and I look forward to meeting you all!

Peace.
