Collaborating Partnerships
SCoPE forms collaborating partnerships with many organizations to implement and promote community activities and products. This is a mutual exchange of support and services.
Since 2008 SCoPE has been hosted and fully supported by BCcampus, a collaborative online learning initiative established to assist public post-secondary institutions in British Columbia to meet their students’ online learning needs. BCcampus recognizes the importance of international online communities and opportunities for dialogue to advance our understanding of learning and teaching.
The Learning and Instructional Development Centre (LIDC) at Simon Fraser University provides pedagogical, media, and technical support to the SFU university community. LIDC is committed to providing the educational resources and support that make innovation and excellence in teaching and learning possible.
In the early years of SCoPE, SFU hosted the site and provided support as needed. LIDC staff members have provided coordination, moderation, as well as the technical and media design services.
The Educational Technology Users Group (ETUG) is a grassroots group in British Columbia focused on the ways in which learning and teaching can be enhanced through technology. ETUG and SCoPE are collaborating on a seminar discussion series on topics of interest to ETUG members. CPsquare is the community of practice on communities of practice. It is a way for us to walk the talk. It is like a town square, a place where people gather to connect and learn together. Like all communities of practice, CPsquare consists of an ecology of interconnected activities that provide many ways for people to participate, benefit, and build a shared practice.
CPSquare and SCoPE have collaborated on both face-to-face and online events related to communities of practice. The "Vancouver Rendezvous" in 2005 provided an opportunity for over 25 individuals interested in CoPs to convene for an afternoon of dialogue and problem solving (and an evening of fine dining and more dialogue!). Currently SCoPE and CPSquare are collaborating on Virtual Field Trips, quarterly excursions to online communities. SCoPE actively promotes CPSquare as an essential community for anyone involved in designing and cultivating a CoP.
