Hello I'm Mark (@mcorbettwilson) a retired scientific glassblower, lifelong learner and returning adult student. I recently completed two Associate's degrees in Liberal Arts and Sociology and am completing a Bachelor's degree online in the College of Individualized Studies at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota. I'm the first Metro State student to be allowed to use my personal eportfolio, on my own domain, for prior learning assessment for college credit. http://markcorbettwilson.com/wp/my-college-degree-as-an-open-digital-humanities-project/ Although I live in Oakland, California, I've spent much of my past three summers in BC. This year I attended the Festival of Learning in Vancouver where I learned about FLO courses. I then attended my third Digital Humanities Summer Institute at the University of Victoria. (and JazzFest!) I finished my stay in BC at Capilano University for the Association for Authentic, Experiential, and Evidence-Based Learning (AAEEBL) eportfolio conference, where I made my first conference presentations. I traveled between Vancouver and Victoria on the newest and fastest Prince of Whales vessel, the 24-metre Salish Sea Dream. Reading more about orcas after returning home, I realized I saw one quarter to one third of the remaining orca population in the San Juan Islands. The photos are mine: I 'borrowed' the Salish Sea Dream rendering from the Times-Colonist, for educational purposes. I like the orca leaping out of the water. ;-) | ||

I'm Sue Hellman, a retired high school teacher formerly with CEET which used to offer online mini-moocs to educators in BC and beyond. I was also worked in the UNB CETL (Centre for Enhanced Teaching & Learning) for a while until I became ill & had to come back home. Now I take on projects and jobs that interest and challenge me such as powerpoint coaching and working on my own mobile app. In Feb. I'm giving a workshop at a conference for California math teachers on helping students recover from 'math zombieism, and late this November I'll be leading the FLO MicroCourse on writing a teaching philosophy statement. Hello everyone. My name is Daina Moore and I am so excited to learn more about rubrics this week! I have started using a rubric in one of the courses I teach in the Health Care Assistant program at Capilano University. I started my career in 1999 as an EFL/ESL instructor in Nagoya, Japan. When I returned to Canada in 2004, I decided to enter nursing because the job prospects for elementary school teachers were not so great (at that time). I am always looking for ways to stretch myself and grow as a teacher, so I hope to take more FLO courses in the future. Autumn is my favorite season. While I enjoy summer, I often am a wilted flower in the heat. So, this is my time of year now that the heat has disappeared. And I enjoy pumpkin-spice everything! Hello everyone! My name is Christina Page, and I'm a Learning Strategist at KPU. Most recently, I've been developing rubrics to support our tutor training program, with the goal of helping our tutors gain a better idea of what constitutes excellence in their reflective practice and portfolio development. From time to time, colleagues also ask for support in developing rubrics in ways that will support student understanding of their course assignments. This week, I'm hoping to refine my rubric development skills, and hopefully gain some skills I can use to support others. | ||

My name is Daniella and I am an Instructional Designer/Coordinator in the Emergency Management division at the Justice Institute of British Columbia. I have 15 years of experience supporting and teaching elementary, secondary, and post-secondary students. Most recently, I worked at SFU’s Teaching and Learning Centre working with senior administration to revamp their teacher assessment policy; and then at UBC’s med school involved in curriculum redevelopment and creating student exams and clinical assessments. I was formerly a mental health researcher and clinician, which influences my evidence-based, humanistic, student-centered approach to teaching. I'm hoping this course can be a helpful refresher for me. :) | ||

Good morning everyone! I'm Sylvia Riessner, a long time educator and learning designer, currently living on lovely Vancouver Island. I spent the first part of my professional life working for industry and colleges in BC and then moved to Yukon and worked for Yukon College and and other organizations. As a cloud-based consultant, I still work for clients in the North and BC - and get to spend time kayaking, exploring the intertidal zones, and playing with my chocolate lab, Kiwi. I signed up for this micro-course to get a sense of how this type of learning design works As a FLO facilitator, I like xploring different perspectives ;-) Looking forward to the week and learning with all of you!
