Daina Moore

Hello from Daina Moore

by Daina Moore - Monday, 17 September 2018, 7:07 PM

Hello everyone. My name is Daina Moore and I am so excited to learn more about rubrics this week!  I have started using a rubric in one of the courses I teach in the Health Care Assistant program at Capilano University. I started my career in 1999 as an EFL/ESL instructor in Nagoya, Japan. When I returned to Canada in 2004, I decided to enter nursing because the job prospects for elementary school teachers were not so great (at that time).

I am always looking for ways to stretch myself and grow as a teacher, so I hope to take more FLO courses in the future.

Autumn is my favorite season. While I enjoy summer, I often am a wilted flower in the heat. So, this is my time of year now that the heat has disappeared. And I enjoy pumpkin-spice everything!

I hope that everyone enjoys the course.

Hello Fellow Micro-FLOers,

As a faculty member in the Upgrading and University Prep Dept. at UFV in Chilliwack, I'm looking forward to learning more about using rubrics to support student self=assessment of their study skills.

Great use of the glossary!

I'm Jamie and I'm currently working as an instructional designers in the Fire and Safety division at the JIBC. Very stoked to be there and have the opportunity to add interactive 360 video to a few other courses there. That's one of the reasons I'm here - wondering how  I might integrate rubrics into the courses I'm working on and if that format will influence the rubrics.

The other reason I'm here is that my daughter and I are in a debate over rubric use in arts (K-12). Her position is that they can't be developed in a way that respects diversity and my stance is that respecting diversity is one of the reasons to use rubrics. So.. looking for ammo lol

This is me on most days - only not that skinny or well dressed :-)

Tara Vanderveer

Hello from the Arctic!

by Tara Vanderveer - Saturday, 15 September 2018, 8:44 AM

Hi everyone!

I lived in Victoria for many years and my family and I often road trip throughout BC. Our mission this summer is to drive from B.C. up to Tuk on the new "highway".

That said, I am currently teaching science for nursing in the Arctic at Nunavut Arctic College. Reading other posts, I feel like I may have snuck into this course a bit illegally as I am not currently a BC instructor but I am hoping I can stay and learn with you all! My hope is that our college will enter into a true agreement with BCcampus as our territory currently lacks this type of support/opportunity for us higher ed peeps. My experience with this group will certainly be fedback to the decision makers to help that proposal!

Also! I am always looking for people with expertise in areas of teaching and learning to bring them up to our campuses in Nunavut to deliver PD as our CTL is currently being built. If you feel you have something to share, please let me know! We should chat!

Looking forward to learning and sharing in the week to come!

Enjoy the weekend!

Nakurmiik,

Tara

Reason I am here, just trying to get better at what I do, online and offline :)

Good Morning!

I have recently started as an Instructional Designer in the Teaching and Learning Team at Yukon College. I am also studying Instructional Design, in my spare time (haha) at Athabasca U. I am really excited to dive into rubrics with you all this week. Here is a pic of a hike I did with my two kiddos a couple weeks ago, near Whitehorse. Fall has definitely arrived here!
