Designing and Sustaining Virtual Communities for Teachers: June 15-July 7, 2006
Designing and Sustaining Virtual Communities for Teachers
Facilitator:
Thérèse Laferrière
Description: The possibilities and realities of creating virtual communities to the service of teacher professional development have been explored for the past twenty years. In the light of expansive learning theory (Engeström, 1987) this seminar calls on both designers and participants of networked communities to assess how far we have come into designing online communities as serious places for teacher professional development. Let's share what in our understanding stood out of the best attempts to do so? What are the lessons learned? What are the embedded contradictions? What are the next steps?
