I can completely relate to your comment about being filmed, Janet! I think with practice we become more comfortable in front to the camera, but of course we do have to consider if serves a purpose.

With your video it appears you're mostly interested in viewers getting the gist of your project, so using screen shots does make sense. Good approach and high 5 for getting a prototype together so quickly! It looks like a lot of work went into making it and we'd love to hear more about your process.

I have a couple comments that are more related to the use of features, plus a question:

I did a pause and rewind a couple times -- did a couple slides appear more than once?

I found myself wanting to read what was in front of me, but found that difficult with the slide moving and length of time it was displayed.

The overlay text helped fill in the context, but it would be better to use darker lettering for that. The first run through I didn't notice some of that text. Also, my eyes were drawn to the smaller print rather than the overlay -- so it would be useful to make it more obvious that the viewer is not meant to be reading the smaller print, if that makes sense!

What do you think about using voice over to help to explain the project?

By now you've probably...

  • reviewed some good (and bad!) examples of intro videos
  • thought about what you would like to include in YOUR video, and maybe even sketched out a script?
  • fiddled with some tools to try, out or made a decision to stick with what's at hand
  • scouted out a good recording environment
  • perhaps even done a trial run?

That would bring you up to Step 7!  Right on track!

Congratulations on being the first out the gate, Leonne! I was having some difficulties watching the video but once I got to a desktop computer and used Chrome it worked just fine.

I'll leave lots of room for others to comment, but just want to say what stood out:

- Nice and brief!

- Are you a singer by any chance? You have very nice voice projection, and you're remembering to breathe. Also, no ummmm and ahhhhh. Yay!

- You're using the video to get across a very wise and useful message: Out of confusion comes clarity! This comes across nicely because you didn't pack in a lot of other information.

- I was wanting to see a little more of the friendly and relaxed side of you. :)

How did you find the whole experience? Was it a lot of prep? Any surprises when you played back the video?

Welcome to our first MicroCourse! Our adventures begin!

Our time this week will pass by quickly, so jump right in NOW. Here are some suggestions for today:

  1. Take a few minutes to read the MicroCourse Handbook - it's just some general information about MicroCourses
  2. Look at the Activity Packet - It contains recommended steps for creating your video, along with a link to the (growing) list of tools. You'll be referring to this often.
  3. Begin working through the steps. The sooner you get to Step 6 the better!
  4. Check our intro videos in the Sharing and Feedback forum. Who would you rather take a course from? ;-)

Our first tip for you: Bandwidth challenged? Jot some notes about what you would like to include in your intro video while waiting for other videos to load.
