There's a whole list of good design and delivery practices to check off for your video, Christina!

It looks like you found a nice location to film. It's a good example of how a clutter-free zone can help the viewer to focus on your short message. I don't know if you set up special lighting but it looks right. It also really feels like you're speaking to me -- you sound natural and your eyes are looking through the camera. Lots of expression and you speak very clearly.

Did you use a phone to record? If you do a take two, I suggest turning it to landscape instead of portrait. That way you won't have so much black space around the image.

Your videos are so fun to watch! Such variety and thoughtful peer feedback!

Kaltura has presented some challenges for us, but we're getting there! I took some screenshots as I was testing to create these instructions for uploading and embedding in the forum. This is the first time we've used it on this Moodle site, so if you're wondering who missed a few steps in the set up it was ME! And if you want to know who saved he day it was ROBIN! This is why I love co-facilitating. :)

You've certainly demonstrated that 10 steps in 5 days is possible. The day is young and we fully expect a spill over into the weekend. In other words, don't feel it's too late to share your video!

Your facilitators,

Sylvia and Robin

In this course we have Kaltura set up for uploading and embedding your video into forum posts. These 8 slides (opens in new browser window) give you step by step instructions on how to use Kaltura.

Note: The advantage of using Kaltura is that it will convert your video so that it can be viewed on any type of computer. Use of Kaltura is optional. You are welcome to upload your video to any service (e.g. YouTube). Or in some cases the service will host the video for you (e.g. Adobe Sparks)

I've been thinking about Leonne's question - headshot or sitting down when filming?

What I've come up with is that both can be very effective. What really counts is everything else that goes into communicating your message. For example, if you are speaking directly to your learners, you need to look at the camera. They are in that little circle! Perhaps lean in now and again, try to be natural in your expressions (or at least try -- this is not easy!) In a chair, a slight shift with your chair to angle your body away from the camera can make you appear less formal and more welcoming.

Playback on video reveals gestures and expressions you aren't even aware you do. Sometimes the more aware you are, the more hyperaware and unnatural you become. Ha, I'm mostly speaking for myself here! But through practice you become more relaxed, and knowing what you need to work on is the first step. And one thing for sure, you'll never be 100% satisfied with the results!

You'll also find you pay more attention to public speakers, interview sets, hand gestures, conversations on the street...
