The Reflections and Next Steps seminar is an annual tradition at SCoPE. We take some time to reflect on the past and plan for the future. It has also become a tradition to begin with these three core questions, but please feel encouraged to add your own questions!
  • What have you liked about SCoPE?
  • What would you change?
  • What are your ideas for future activities?
Last year your contributions were summarized in this Reflections and Next Steps wiki. Using Marginalia to tag forum posts we were able to generate a summary using these categories. I suggest we continue to use these same tags to continue to build on the excellent suggestions from last year.

Feedback:
  • What you have appreciated about SCoPE (tag: appreciation)
Future:
  • Suggestions for topics (tag: topic)
  • Suggestions for format (tag: format)
  • Suggestions for improved user experience (tag: user experience)
  • Suggestions for promotion (tag: promotion)
As always, your involvement in shaping the future of SCoPE is appreciated!
Our next Quarterly Field Trip is tomorrow! Join Jonny Morris on a tour of Healthy Minds - Healthy Campuses, a community with the goal of promoting peer-to-peer learning about issues related to campus mental health and healthy substance use amongst British Columbia post-secondary students. Members include students, professors, counsellors, human rights advisors, disability advocates, administrators, residence life staff, and researchers. This live session will take place in the Online Community Enthusiasts Adobe Connect meeting room, Wednesday August 18 at 11:00 PDT, 18:00 GMT.

Community Seeding 2.0 is a conference on community launch strategies and cases that are based on introducing Web 2.0 tools. All of the sessions will have both a synchronous and asynchronous component -- with documents and discussions. To participate in the conference simply join CPsquare. Begins August 20th!
Thanks so much Nicholas for sharing your interesting project with the SCoPE community, and thanks everyone for your participation. As you can see from the final posts in this seminar there are always people who read along. We appreciate it when members pop in to let us know they are participating but have been too busy to contribute, so thanks for that Lynne and Deirdre!

Something that will really stick with me is what Nick said about how we often decide in advance where we want the dialogue to go. As educators we may listen and go through the motions of acknowledging contributions but there's a tendency to revert back to the "prepared story" rather than encourage a student-driven curriculum. What a thought provoking statement Nick has left us with!

We will have a brief hiatus over the next few weeks then start back in August with our annual Reflections and Next Steps seminar to talk about SCoPE and plan for the future. This is tentatively scheduled for August 23-31. Then in September 13 - 30 we are fortunate to have Jesai Jayhmes back with us for Humanizing the Online Experience Part 2. Mark your calendars!

Hello community enthusiasts! Just want to let you know about a 10-day seminar that starts today at SCoPE. Nicholas Bowskill from University of Glasgow will introduce us to the research and development work on the Shared Thinking project. This seminar will be of interest to all educators, facilitators, and community of practice leaders.

SCoPE seminars are free and open to the public, and are facilitated by volunteers.

Hope to see you there!
