Hi Faith,

It's great to hear a little about you and where you're looking to integrate Liberating Structures and with whom.

One thing that comes to mind is that at least one (and probably more) of the LS activities integrates a form of circle practice, so that might interest you and your learners. (Check out Conversation Cafe.) But LS also have room for "riffs and variations" in each structure so I'd be curious to see what your and other's ideas might be, how you might think about varying or revising them to incorporate indigenous ways of knowing and being.

Beth

Welcome, everyone, to Day 1 of our FLO MicroCourse on designing with Liberating Structures. If you had a chance to peek into the course on the weekend you probably got a flavour of where we're heading.

We've laid out 5 steps in 5 days. Our aim is that you can get a good start this week on designing at least one Liberating Structures activity to support your teaching and learning and/or meeting situations!

We suggest looking at the Activity Packet first. Day 1 is all about the research phase and introductions, which are taking place in the Open Forum. Feel free to ask any questions you have throughout the week in the Open Forum as well.

Also, take a couple of minutes to update your profiles if you have a chance. Putting in a photo of your face - if you're comfortable - will help us get to know each other a little.

Looking forward to this!

Your facilitators,

Beth and Leva

Welcome, everyone! Here's where we would like to begin...

Please start a post (Click on "Add a new discussion") in this forum to answer both of these invitation questions:

  • What big question do you have about Liberating Structures as we begin our time together?
  • What do you hope to get from and give this group this week?
After you have made your post, please respond to two other people's posts, noting where you may feel you have connections with them or extending offers of support. We invite you to find people you don't know in person yet to respond to, and try to look for those who haven't yet received a response so everyone feels welcomed and included.

This is an activity where you are absolutely welcomed to carry out serious play. So feel free to post images, drawings, videos, to help your posts and replies come alive!

Actually it occurs to me that asking about the 'worst that could happen' might result in the person thinking something like well actually, not much bad stuff would happen. And that might be a good thing. Say they wanted to try an approach that was new to them and they thought that it would be risky to do so so they were unsure about trying it. Asking about "Well what's the worst that could happen if you tried it that way?" might make a person realize that there's less risk than they thought. So maybe they should just try it!

Good luck with it Emma and thanks to all of you for a "meaty" thread here!
