Motivation for me means....

  • being engaged or excited by a topic...feel connected.
  • feeling committed to a community or a team working together on a group project.
  • having structure like an effective environment--even a constraint.
  • having learning that is meaningful/applicable to me.

Hi everyone,

I'm not qualified at all to participate in a discussion on Science, but I'm intrigued with technology and its uses in education.  A Google search led me to this New York Times Education article on "No Test Tubes? Debate on Virtual Space Science Classes" http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/20/education/20online.html?_r=1.  Embedded in the article is a link "Everything but the Formaldehyde" http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/20/education/20obox.html, which in turn has a link to a virtual lab that you can try out http://www.latenitelabs.com/

Cheers,

Judy

Interesting article, Gina. Thanks. Flexibility to learn when time permits and being able to self-assess seem to be of key interest to learners.

We've recently produced some online resources using Camtasia and have been pleased with the results.  Your post reminded me that we also have Articulate Presenter.  However, it looks like this isn't packaged with Articulate Quizmaker and with its 21 question types, as opposed to Camtasia's 3, it might be an application we could use.  If you or anyone else is using Articulate's Quizmaker, it would be great to hear how you're using it and what you like about it.

Cheers,

Judy

Hi,

I've used WizIQ when working on assignments with others in my Master's cohort and have found it really useful.  However, when I was involved in a demo of this product a few months back I understood all data was automatically recorded and stored on US servers.  Unfortunately, our Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOI/POP) Act prohibits us from using this system for teaching and learning activities in British Columbia, Canada unless we first get student consent.  Otherwise, a great free product.

Cheers,

Judy

My name is Judy Southwell, and I work in the Teaching and Learning Centre of Malaspina University-College in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, Canada.  I've also been lurking for a while and look forward to these sessions.

I'm not teaching at present, other than in our professional development offerings, most of which are face-to-face with additional online sessions planned for the future.  Some of our programming includes inter-disciplinary teamwork.  There's more we'd like to do to bring folks at our outreach campuses in contact with those at our main campus.
