I think you hit the nail on the head here Peter with this:

What will the learner be able to do/ do better/ contribute more, etc., what benefits will the comapny gain?

In the corporate world learning analytics has to tie to the return on investment for training - why would a commercial entity do it otherwise?
Hey Jeff,

I liked this paper. Nice easy intro to the area. One thing I didn't get was in section 2 when Baker discusses the differences between EDM and DM in general. He mentions that EDM has to account for multi-level hierarchy - any ideas what he is talking about here. Is it pre-requisite relationships in concepts or is it the hierarchical element found in the classroom in terms of students and teachers?

Any ideas?

Mark

[SCoPE] LAK11 -> Introductions -> Hello from Dublin, Ireland

by Mark Melia -
Hello all,

I am Mark from Dublin, Ireland.

I work for an e-learning company which specialises in open source software solutions to e-learning needs. I am really interested in starting to make good educational software and I think that the only way to do that is to know the learner. The question is why not ask them what they want/need - sometimes what is pedagogically best for the learner is not what they want - so we need to figure it out. Maybe I should save this for a blog post...

Anyway - I am into this since completing my PhD in the area which looked at using Model Driven Software Engineering methods and technologies to validate e-learning courses.

Looking forward to learning from you all!
