Hi Emma,

thanks for sharing with us!

I use Google docs for many projects, both school projects and work projects for my own personal notes or collaborative notes.. I have never use Zoho before but I will definitely check it out (great info, thanks!). I like to use Google docs because I can access my notes from any computer anywhere and have others to look and collaborate in one file.

In one of the group project however, we use Google docs to create draft for our group report and for some reason, Google docs crashed and we cannot retrieve the copy of our report.

Even after this experience, I still use Google docs for its efficiency, but I try to back up as much as possible and try to be less dependant to only one tools just for safety reason.

I have never use SecondLife before though I learn from one of my courses about collaborative concert from various artists done in SecondLife. Can you elaborate more how you use SecondLife for teaching and why it's more into teaching rather than learning?

Hilda
just wondering if anyone is here with me.... come on in and say hello!

I have seen couple responses for the poll, share more of your experience using social media for teaching and learning here =)

For me, my favorite social media tools I use for my own learning process are dropbox, google docs, and skype because as a student studying Interactive arts, there's a lot of projects that need to be done in a group and these tools are excellent for sharing the work!

Aside from this, I am thinking maybe Facebook can also be a great tool for teaching and learning, especially the group functionality where we can easily create groups, upload media and links, and chat within the group! I have never use Facebook aside from social purpose, but I think it has potential. Just a thought! ;-)

Table 2:

POST IT NOTES

- Why collaborate?
1. make a better…
2. we can both all use it ( don’t need to reinvent)
- How does one get asked to the dance( get asked to collaborate)
- How does one ask busy people to participate
- Comfortable to share rough or draft, but takes time to polish to publish level
- LTC >> treasure box
- Similar values and goals
- Resources – categories, tags, searchable?
- Move tag cloud to homepage or get rid of the tag cloud?
- More detailed description about the tag
- Collaboratory or repository?
- Infrastructure to collaborate or meet there and work elsewhere
- Complicated playground >> keep treasure on place for 1 year.
- Need concise summaries, descriptions
link leads to another link >> get big
- Twitter version
- Pont put all resources at once

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Issues:
- Some people are waiting to get asked, Other hesitate to ask someone who is busy
- LTC >>treasure hunt

- Searching function is not working well yet: because we have to know it is existed and what it is called exactly
- Tag cloud? Get rid? Move to the homepage?
- BCcampus as repository or meet and collaborate somewhere else
- Things seems transitory >> change the content: should be stable for a year
- Put it into Categories
- Differentiate between news and resources
- Follow someone posts

Table 3:

POST IT NOTES

- Menu is not logical: ISW should be under faculty development; random
- Why resources is not the SOL*R, about at top
- Heading of the widgets need to be linked (ISW)
- Site to complex, still no sense of what scope does,, overwhelming (See ISW networking site)
- Needs User interface (focus it down,, cannot be everything to everybody) specifics but general
- More clear instructions to navigate faculty or students
- Make login easier/ more accessible
- What is the difference of SCoPE, SOL*R, Series, etc, isw
- Usability, availability, improve calendar, clickable then open description tag
- Digital devices and access
- weak navigation to LTC from BCcampus

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Navigation and look and feel
Content is getting there (robust)
Who is the site for? Who is learning together?

Table 4 :

POST IT NOTES

Look and feel
- More images and graphic
- Customize display mode
- Simplify tag cloud
- More visual

Content >> Promote or highlight
- Expert

- Categories
- soTL projects / interests (database)
- SIGS/ COPS +eg PBL COPS
- Ask an experts

Usability
- Need marketing strategies and materials eg media cards for each categories area of the LTC : description of LTC
- Show scenarios of use
- Need for facilitator for each cops/ sigs
- Idenitify various roles
- Host brown bags for different groups to explore LTC
- RSS feeds from / to events
- Add information to the site,,
- Button on the browser to add onto LTC
- Do research, what tools browser, etc people are using
- Differentiating audience: Faculty / staff, developers
- Login should be move so people wont think they need to login to access
- Display settings, indicate preference

How would you like to see the site evolved?
What motivated us to keep the resources alive?
We want the faculty to use it
How to drive people interact with the website. (how to get more people involved)
Online discussion
Living things stable for a year

What resources used by teaching and learning
Showcase really powerful teaching and learning work

LTC WEBSITE

RESOURCES and EVENTS
Right now:
- Shows recent posts chronologically
- Categorization by file and Tags
- Pull all events into our calendar
- Events or resources connected with RSS feed.
- Bring together: Twitter, BlipTV, slideShare (tagging still manual)
- Using tag cloud to get the Information
- Why? So one website can contain all the information (from various place: Twitter, BlipTV, etc)
- Tag? Keeping it open but challenging in the way to uniform tags

Questions:
- What the events can be? What kind of events? What kind of resources? Right now the criteria is broad
- What kind of events can be posted? We are not clear yet. >> related to teaching and learning
- Searchable in google? Or searchable in LTC site? Both

Suggestion:
- Write a criteria of events >> In terms of CLARITY
- Needs more Guidelines
- Accessible help
- Calendar is the easiest way to manage events
- Way to Narrow down: online events, local events

MEMBERS
What we have now:
- Offer expertise
Suggestions:
- Making it open and not inclusive (one on one conversation)
