KaleidoSCoPE: Logo suggestions

I was looking at the choice of logos, and don't see any where the letters match the way SCoPE is typed everywhere else. Hmmmmm.....

I like the round globe (#42). I think #4 uses the same typographical design for the word, but the addition of the globe under it in #42 implies a good, global coverage for what SCoPE is doing. But in #42, it's unfortunate how the word is sliding out of the box.

What if the word was wrapping around the centre of the globe? What if the (black) lines around the globe were also wrapping?

Good point, Kate! We should be carrying that SCoPE (little o) look into the logo. I'll forward this note to Jason Toal who has been working on the logos. Thanks for taking the time to create sample.

Excellant observation on the size of the 'o' in the logo designs, All preceding designs will definately take that into consideration. We are hoping to have shorter list of logos to choose from in the next round, and I will be taking the designs a bit further as we get feedback. Your comments are a great example of that thanks.

I went back and reworked it according to your suggestions and ended up with the following. Just a reaction mind you, but what do you think? ( a little "hard rock cafe" perhaps?)

Hi Jason, Yes, I like the development. Thanks for responding to my ideas and developing them a bit.

Not too "hard rock cafe" IMHO.

I like the thicker ring around the globe (the logo on the right), because I like how it implies the idea of SCoPE circling the globe. Having it as a full circle, though, does it make it look a little too much like Saturn? I like that the black lines in the logo on the left make me think of a moving globe's 'swish marks', although they don't curve enough to be movement-swishes.

Back to the right side logo -- I wonder what it would look like if only the front part of the ring was there, perhaps wider in the middle and narrowing at the ends like a swish mark, and the SCoPE word was right ON the ring? Like the letters are satellites moving around the globe?

Kate's globey idea combined with the little o in SCoPE have really made a difference in my thinking about the logo. It's also interesting to see how you react to a logo when it's placed on the main page.

Now I'm leaning towards the look of the logo on the right because it has a nice bold crisp look to it and I like the big letters. I'm having a hard time visualizing the letters right on a ring (or part of a ring), though -- they would have to be fairly small.
