Back in May during the Online Community Enthusiasts event in Vancouver, British Columbia we decided that the opportunity to visit communities with the help of a tour guide, and using a specific framework as a lens on the community, would be an excellent mutual exchange among community leaders and enthusiasts. Tourists (enthusiasts) can get ideas and insights from seeing other communities, and the tour guides (leaders) can benefit from the expertise of the enthusiasts.

I'm happy to announce that we have scheduled our first community Virtual Field Trip!
Randy Fisher will take us on a tour of WikiEducator on Monday, August 10 at 15:00 PDT, 22:00 GMT (see your time zone). We will meet in this Elluminate room. (If you're new to Elluminate follow the link to check audio, connection, and software.) This particular field trip will also launch the 3-week SCoPE seminar "Collaborative Projects on WikiEducator" August 10 - 28, 2009.

As suggested by Alice McGillivray during the Vancouver event, we will be using the
CP4 model to frame our field trip discussions. This model was developed by the US Military and uses 4 overlapping elements to describe a community's purpose:
  • Content
  • Connections
  • Conversations
  • Context
These field trips are organized in collaboration with CPSquare.org. We're developing the resources on the CPSquare wiki and we'll continue to shape them as we work through this process together.
I hope to see you at our first Virtual Field Trip! Thanks so much Randy, for stepping up to the plate to launch this series.
