I've received email from three members of the BCcampus.ca communities to let me know they will be attending our rendezvous in Vancouver: Paul Stacey, Sandy Hirtz, and Amanda Harby. They're involved in coordinating 4 different communities:
- EdTech Users Community
- BC Learning Marketplace & Expo
- BCcampus Online Learner Community
- A research community (hmmm, can't remember the name off hand!)

I've invited them to drop in here to elaborate on their work, so stay tuned.

During the E-Learn conference

by John Smith -
I don't know whether there will be others who are attending most of the E-Learn conference like I will be. I'm thining it would be great for me if there was a chance to get acquainted, say, on Monday night, for dinner?

That might get a bit of a network going so that it's easier to find out what other people are hearing and thinking.

John:

I'd welcome a chance to meet for dinner on Monday night. Always keen to meet and discuss online community with fellow enthusiasts. Is anyone else able to join us? John are you attending a pre-conference tutorial on the Monday? If so I see they end at 5 pm so we could hook up after that.

Time to figure travel plans

by John Smith -
Paul,

Actually I need to do that next round of detailed planning. But Monday afternoon sounds like the right time to get connected. I'll post more information about my plans & whereabouts when I figure it out. (Need to see if I can bunk with friends like I thought I could, etc. :- )

Community Enthusiasts

by Sylvia Currie -
Paul, this isn't the first time you've referred to this group as "community enthusiasts". Each time I see it I think YES, that name suits our SIG much better than "community coordinators" which is the label I slapped on it. I've now officially changed our SIG to "community enthusiasts". Thanks for that!

Hi, I'm John, and I'm a Community addict

by John Smith -
A guy introduced himself that way in the Foundations Workshop that I'm launching this week. Pitty nobody picked up on it by play-acting the AA responses.

I like enthusiast, too! :-)

I really like the name community enthusiasts and am looking forward to attending the rendezvous on Friday.  I will not be hard to miss as I am the very pregnant woman seeking out food/bathrooms, etc.

Thanks for the invitation to join in Sylvia.

Quentin, it will be great to see you in person again! It sounds like you've changed since the last time :-) We'll bring you some food.

For everyone else: Quentin is the coordinator for the SFU Co-op Learning Community. The community is for co-op students, and many co-op students are working on the project as part of their co-op placement work. Talk about a cooperative community effort!

Things are working out better than I thought for me. Thanks to the generous support of the Educational Support & Innovation Unit at SFU I am now attending the eLearn conference. (Before I was just planning to show up for the Rendezvous and participate outside the session rooms :-) ) Yay!

Now, about those dinner plans. Anybody for dinner or drinks/appetizers Wednesday night?

Dinner(s) and gatherings

by Alice MacGillivray -

I can't manage a dinner Wednesday (nor the conference fee -- I think it's great that SFU is supporting your going -- hope it's a strong conference).

I thought we had a Rendezvous/drinks/dinner (with locations undetermined) in the works for Friday.  Are both being planned?

Re: Dinner(s) and gatherings

Right! Didn't mean to confuse matters! Friday is our main day for rendezvousing, drinks, dinner, etc. I was carrying on with John's suggestion to connect during the conference. John originally suggested Monday, but that's been ruled out. I can't make Tuesday, so Wednesday came mind.

Glad that SFU is supporting you to go to the whole eLearn conference, Sylvia. I know that everything you see and hear will benefit us all eventually.

It's always good to spend time with you, and because I live downtown, I can walk over and hook up with you and others at your convenience. There are so many choices of places to meet and eat that it's a bit mind-boggling, but for the convenience of all, perhaps the Wall restaurants are the best bet?

Wendesday night it is!

by John Smith -
Shall we meet Wednesday evening around 6 unless we connect otherwise.

During the conference I think we should try to use the IRC channel which is linked from here:

Too bad we won't see you Wednesday, Frances! I'll come find you at the eLearningBC booth. I invited the folks from elearningBC who are involved in the online community project to participate in our Rendezvous on Friday. I think they would benefit, and certainly would have some stories to share. Give them a nudge! :-)

Salvor, so glad you'll be joining us at the Rendezvous! I believe I read in your profile at the Enhancing Online Communication seminar (or was it your eLearn presentation?!) that you're involved in pre-service teacher communities. I checked out your digital portfolios site -- the one in English wink -- and it looks like a fascinating project.

Look forward to meeting you and, and learning more about your work.
