Hi everyone and welcome to FLO Synchronous!
Asif Devji and I are your co-facilitators and we are happy to be supporting your learning in this course over the next three weeks. We will be checking in on the course during the evenings and can be contacted directly via email (below).
We see that some of you had a chance to go into the course over the weekend and check things out - this is great! Three weeks is going to go by pretty quickly so it would be a good idea to look at your calendars now and schedule some time in over the duration of each week to work on this course. We have both asynchronous and synchronous activities to engage in.
The synchronous sessions use Collaborate Ultra and are on the following dates:
● Tuesday, May 12, 12:30 – 1:30pm
● Tuesday, May 19, 12:30 – 1:30pm
● Thursday, May 28,12:30 – 1:30pm
All the synchronous sessions use the Collaborate Ultra Main Room which is accessible from the "hub" tab in the course. This Tuesday we will start getting to know each other, orient ourselves briefly to key features of Collaborate Ultra and practice with a few of them and discuss any questions about course expectations or elements.
Collaborate Ultra includes two minute introduction:
Please view before joining our Tuesday web conference. Note that the recommended internet browsers are either Chrome or Firefox. Also, if you haven't already done so, please review the participation expectations and course self-assessment rubric in the Course Overview.
This first week's topic is about preparing for synchronous sessions. Visit the Week 1 tab for the notes and activities there, including video or audio introductions.
By the end of this week (earlier is just fine) we'd like for you to declare which track you're going to be on for the course - a reviewing participant or practicing facilitator. Both are engaged ways to participate in the course - one just has you finishing with actually facilitating a synchronous session. Read more about the two tracks in the Course Overview and think about which one you would like to commit to. Feel free to post in this in our declaration google doc if you already know which track you'd like to choose to let us know. We'll remind you again by the end of the week.
If you have any questions about navigating the course site, please post to us as soon as possible in this forum and we'll help you out.
We look forward to being with you here in the course as we learn about who to facilitate learning online using synchronous tools.
Ross and Asif
The video introduction to Collaborate Ultra is not working.
Hi Briana - thanks for letting us know. Not sure what was happening but it is now embedded within the message above. Here is another link that will take you to the same resources: https://help.blackboard.com/Collaborate/Ultra/Participant/Get_Started
