social networking vs. online education

social networking vs. online education

I am investigating why so many people feel free to participate in social networking yet avoid/fear online educational opportunities--especially young adults living in poverty.  Would welcome all comments, introductions to someone in that range who would be willing to interview, etc.

Thanks,

Rachel

Rachel, a few months ago you posted a request for comments about why people are so quick to adopt social networking practices yet avoid online educational opportunities. When I read this I thought WOW, what an interesting question! But I resisted jumping in right away because, well, it's a habit I'm trying to break as SCoPE moderator. :-)

Have you been able to gather some good stories from young adults? Are there specific tools that they're more inclined to use?
