Multimembership Tips, Tools, Techniques

Last week, Karen Baker got us talking about making the most efficient use of our time. Timesaving tools were mentioned as well as attitudes like letting some things go and going with the flow.

Nik Peachy introduced the topic blogging and multimembership. It got people thinking about the strategies, techniques, and tools they use to manage so many blogs. The topic was worth exploring as many people follow bloggers, read blogs, subscribe to some blogs, and write blogs all as part of their social network online memberships.

The discussion went beyond blogs and timesavers, but for new people joining in week 2, let's explore this further. Are there any tools or websites that you have found particularly useful in helping you manage your multimembership?

Sue,

I apologize for misunderstanding the task in my previous post. I related to my memberships in various social networks and not just on blogs. I use RSS feeds and keep track of my blogs and others' blogs on google reader.

Warm wishes,

Nellie

Hello to all...I am late to jump...but here are my thoughts...

I have used many tools to manage my RSS feeds, Blogs, etc...but for the last year or so...i have centralized it all on my "protopage"...

Protopage is widget and tabs driven and it is the simplest website tool I have found to manage my own feeds, bookmarks, etc...

Have a look - http://www.protopage.com/ffstartpage

Go here if you want your own protopage - http://www.protopage.com/

I especially like my "Blog Wall" - http://www.protopage.com/ffstartpage#My_Stuff/BlogWall - in one page I can see all my feeds and then can quickly scan and decide what I would like to read....

cheers

Frank, you're not late at all! In fact, this seminar was organized as part of a mini-conference organized by participants in the Facilitating Online Communities courses which is just kicking off today. In any case, latecomers are always welcome in SCoPE seminars. :-)

Protopage is neat. It looks like you can pack a lot of information in one place!

Protopage reminds me of both Netvibes as well as PageFlakes. I wonder if anybody has compared them (as I do not see many differences between them having used the first two quite a bit).

Hello Jeffrey...

Along with my Protopage I also have a Netvibes and Pageflakes site as well...as time went on I was gravitating towards using my protopage more and more until I stopped using Netvibes and/or Pageflakes...and for me it was because it was simpler to use and visually less distracting...

...and Protopage for now at least does not display ads
cheers

Great; I am playing around with Protopage now.

Along the same, or rather related, line, I have started to use the Speed Dial add-in for FireFox, which allows me to see a number of websites at once and then quickly navigate to the ones I like. That is my current homepage; why have only one when I can more easily see 9?!
