When your best student is an abnormal eel...

I am intrigued by the "abnormal eel" but wouldn't want to meet it in a dark alley (or anywhere, probably).

This story reminds me of "Harrison Bergeron," but it's almost scarier because the mediocrity described in the story was unintentional and unconsciously constructed.  In trying to build a system that served everybody, the builders of the school served nobody well.

Perhaps, in some weird way, the eel is better described as "well adjusted".
