Hi everyone,

The international response to our inaugural meeting for planning the OER university has been overwhelming. Prof Jim Taylor from USQ said that "OER is the next big thing in tertiary education" and Phil Ker, remarked that "this is history in the making". It's refreshing to see this level of strategic commitment for the OER university concept at executive leadership level.

Apology for a few day's delay in posting the summary of the meeting. You will find the summary and video highlights of the meeting here:

If you missed the live stream -- this is a good place to catch up. I've also included a video from the Saylor Foundation, which we received to late to convert for the stream" -- I think this is a good example of how different projects can potentially collaborate in building the OER ecosystem -- most notably to find solutions for formal academic credit from OER learning.

You can also access the videos for all the Ustream sessions here:

Have a great weekend.

Cheers
Wayne

Dear Dr. Wayne,

A very loud applause to you and the entire team including partner institutions who made this a great success!!! Looking forward for next steps with great enthusiasm. OERU initiative will have all rights to demand one hour volunteer service from me every day in this planning phase. One hour is definitely not the upper limit :)

Warm regards
Anil

Hi thanks Anil,

Wow -- with one hour volunteer service per day from a few interested and dedicated educators around the world -- we will be able to provide free learning to all students worldwide.

Watch this space!

What are some examples of tasks these volunteers will be doing?

WE volunteer

by Valerie Taylor -
I was wondering the same thing - what are people volunteering to do? What needs to be done? Can we get some projects going that will effectively use volunteers' time and good intentions?

We have talked about this in the past but it has never reached a sustainable momentum. Perhaps this time?

As I mentioned in the google groups, I'm willing to contribute my time to making this work in any way I can. Maybe we can get a sticker/template for "I am a volunteer" for our information box on WikiEducator so we can be contacted when needed. Jim (tech person on WE) can create the box and connect it to the list of volunteers quite easily.
