I find these auto-generated "papers" to be quite useful, especially for purposeful groups/communities. In LAK11 we are all working toward a better understanding of learning and knowledge analytics, so the content is quite focused.
I often see individuals creating a paper.li for their own network. Those papers no doubt have more meaning and value for those individuals. The auto-tweets announcing that these papers are available seem to annoy a few people on twitter. And then the tweets from the annoyed people annoy more people...and so on
