The Best Practices in Upgrading Online Conference is organized by Bow Valley College and Norquest College with support from eCampusAlberta, Alberta North, and BCcampus.
The 8th Annual Symposium on Innovative Teaching is held at Simon Fraser University in May. The theme for 2006 was Dialogue in Teaching and Learning: An Educational Framework for Linking Coursework and Community. After the conference we continued to explore the challenges and rewards associated with dialogue-based learning as an innovative practice in pedagogy.

Canada is one of the only countries in the developed world without a national strategic plan to research, develop and harness new technologies for teaching and learning. E-learning, in combination with other forms of delivery, affords potential to increase not only accessibility, but effectiveness and enjoyment of both formal and lifelong learning for Canadians of all ages. This 3 week online conference is designed to inform, inspire and lead to actions that insure that Canadians maximize the opportunities presented by new technologies and associated pedagogies.

You can register for the symposium simply by logging in to SCoPE and clicking on the Shaping our Future link.

This experiential workshop takes place almost entirely at the drawing surface. We’ll start by warming up our drawing muscles and silencing those pesky inner censors. We’ll build into the basic practices of graphic facilitation and recording. We will pay attention to preparation, the actual visual work, and follow up including digital capture of paper based images. Time will be devoted to participatory graphic approaches, practicing and giving peer feedback. You can expect to go away with icons, ideas and approaches which you can use immediately, as well as ideas about how to hone your practice.
