There are several options for managing your participation in SCoPE forums so that you can stay up-to-date, zone in on specific topics, and annotate sections of posts that interest you.

Manage Forums

While you can subscribe and unsubscribe to forum posts through individual forums, the easiest way to manage this is to use the at-a-glance view of all forums, descriptions, and subscription/tracking options.
  1. Click 'forums' link in the Activity Menu on the left
  2. Turn subscription and tracking options off an on by clicking on 'Yes' or 'No' button
  3. Click orange RSS button to add individual forum RSS feeds to your reader.

Annotate Forum Posts

In SCoPE we have Marginalia installed, an annotation tool that allows you to highlight text as you read forum posts and write margin notes. Your notes (and tags) may be private or public, and can therefore serve as a personal or group reflection/summary tool, as well as a useful way to flag contributions to revisit and weave into future forum posts.

In addition, Smartcopy (for Firefox only) allows you to highlight text before replying (use the "quote" link) to a forum post as a way to automatically include context information about the source document.

More information about Marginalia, including screencasts on how to use the basic and advanced features, can be found in this SCoPE special interest group.

Manage Personal Profile

In addition to customizing forum options you can also set preferences through your personal profile.

  1. Click on your name anywhere it appears in SCoPE
  2. Click 'edit profile' tab
  3. Click the 'show advanced' button at the top right to display all options
  4. Use pull-down menus to select your preferences
  5. Remember to save (scroll down)
