Grainne: Hi Helen!
Sylvia Currie: Welcome if you're just joining us now. We'll be starting our field trip in about 5 minutes
Helen Walmsley: OK, thanks!
Grainne: ....so time to get your fieldtrip gear on, and don't forget the torch and chocolate!!!!
Helen Walmsley: chocolate?!
Grainne: yes - very important on fieldtrips, absolutely essential, the beautry of chocolate on virtual fieldtrips is that it doesn't have any calories!
Joost Robben: Hi all, greetings from holland
Sylvia Currie: Yes I think I read that Derek Chirnside is bringing chocolate http://cloudworks.ac.uk//cloud/view/2659
Grainne: Hi from Holland!
Joost Robben: hi grainne
Kristina: hello from luxembourg
Grainne: hiya Joost!
Sylvia Currie: We'll be starting in 3 minutes
Grainne: Hello Kristina - nice to see an international mix in here, now all with need is some spanish speakers so I can practise my spanish!
Sylvia Currie: John speaks Spanish
Grainne: excellent!
Grainne: maybe after the presentation might be a good idea tho...
Kristina: @grainne: i still remember your CCK08 session from last year. looking forward to an update on cloudworks
Grainne: wow Kristina! I think you will be amazed at the difference since last year. We *hated* the old design much happier with new look
Kristina: i've looked at it a few times since then and like the community features a lot
Gerry: Not the "centre of the province"
Christina Merl: Hi everyone from Vienna!
Sus Nyrop in Denmark: God aften from Farum in Denmark
Sylvia Currie: @Gerry - true! Just feels like it sometimes when I drive from the coast
Gerry: But now we have the killer app - Wave ; >
Glen: yeah Wave 9gatin@googlewave.com
Kristina: yep it did. back then we could not see much. now there is a looot.
Sylvia Currie: Just fyi, you see '93' slides but that's because we uploaded the file more than once.
John Smith: Did I miss what the underlying technology is?
Kristina: no. she hasn't mentioned it yet i think
Sylvia Currie: It's developed in house, and takes advantage of social networking tools people are already using twitter, slideshare, etc
Joost Robben: socially emerging sites?
John Smith: Drupal as infrastructure?
Kristina: so it's a more sophisticated wiki?
Joost Robben: looks alot like it
Sus Nyrop in Denmark: aggregator with an attitude
DeirdreB: Very text based???
Sylvia Currie: I'm not sure I could make sense of this without the metaphor
Gerry: Anyone doing a "formal course" in clouds yet?
Sylvia Currie: @Gerry Interesting idea.
Bron: Is this a grant funded project?
John Smith: thanks
Bron: prototypein drupal
John Smith: Coded something -- PHP framework
Sylvia Currie: @Bron just found on site "It is part of the Open University Learning Design Initiative and is funded by both JISC and The Open University"
Sus Nyrop in Denmark: I found the very cloud foir this field trip http://cloudworks.ac.uk/cloud/view/2659
Sylvia Currie: Right! Looks familiar
Christina Merl: hab das noch nicht eingesetzt, noch bei factline?
Kristina: the Engestrom quote is from the young Engestrom, Jyri Engestrom: http://zengestrom.com/blog/2005/04/why_some_social.html
Helen Walmsley: what's the C4P framework?
John Smith: It's on the CP2 field trip wiki, Helen.
John Smith: more info here: http://cpsquare.org/wiki/CPsquare_field_trips_project
Sylvia Currie: @Walmsley We thought it might be useful to use that framework during the field trips
Helen Walmsley: Thanks!
Bron: this is very impressive
John Smith: We might have to revisit, dig deeper....
Christina Merl: @ John: yes!
Christina Merl: ok -- merci!
Sylvia Currie: And WAY more visits to the cloud than any wiki we had ever used to support our workshops
Gerry: Also brought the Twitter backchannel from Tech It Up into the cloud.
Christina Merl: This is so impressive!
DeirdreB: I hear metaphors of islands and mountains but all I see is text. Where is the multimedia
Sylvia Currie: context: Grainne is a Spanish student at OU
DeirdreB: Where are the mindmaps, photos?
Bron: a crossroads of communities
Mary Loftus 1: Are there any 'getting started' tutorials?
John Smith: Let's ask about organizational context: who's "we"?
Etienne Wenger: What about National identity?
Grainne: Hi Etienne!
Grainne: good!
Joost Robben: tnx grainne
Gerry: Why not???
Kristina: @John: OU?
Grainne: yes we think that is powerful for activity streams
Gerry: Learners are liking experiments with alternative learning environments as opposed to things like Moodle or BB
Bron: How did you build the critical mass of resources and users to have something seemingly successful to attract new users? What was the growth pattern?
Asif: thanks
Helen Walmsley: Mary - there is a video intro here: http://cloudworks.ac.uk/news/view/1498
John Smith: yikes: agile development on acid.
Mary Loftus 1: Great! Thx Helen.
Bron: How did you build the cricitical mass of resources and users to have something seemingly successful to attract new users? What was the growth pattern?
Gerry: Well, nothing is for everyone. Why would cloudworks be different.
Sus Nyrop in Denmark: Thanks Grainne, this was inspiring! I need to go now, bye bye
Sylvia Currie: Bye for now, Sus!
Kristina: speaking about closeness: would it be possible to install the system on a different server for a smaller community?
Grainne: go ahead!
Kristina: closeness = closedness
Grainne: hi bron
Bron: mic problems
Bron: question above in chat
Grainne: ok
Sylvia Currie: can hear you on mic, Bron
Grainne: yep
Grainne: good question!
Sylvia Currie: LOL
John Smith: pink! EEK!
Etienne Wenger: What's wrong with pink?
John Smith: :)
Sylvia Currie: @Etienne because it's pink
Gerry: Yes, a specific need. Just in time.
Grainne: cant believe i said agile development on acid!
Grainne: bye sus!
Gerry: <embed>
Sylvia Currie: Have to be cautious re upload / server space as well
Etienne Wenger: Agile development on acid would probably produce a lot of pink
Grainne: we can always carry on in the cloud!
Asif: any synchrounous communication tools?
Kristina: thanx
Sylvia Currie: We can continue to ask questions and explore here: http://cloudworks.ac.uk//cloud/view/2659
Grainne: Hi John - great!
Grainne: yep that would be good to carry on in cloudworks!
Bron: VERY impressive - lots of fine thinking has gone into this design, infrastrucutre and architecture - bravo to the team!
Grainne: thanks bron! we are a tad obsessed
Bron: very deservedly so!
Grainne: i agree and familiarity is so important
Sylvia Currie: Love the fact that it's open for us all to use
Grainne: great - see u in the "clouds"
Sylvia Currie: Field Trips: http://cpsquare.org/wiki/CPsquare_field_trips_project
Grainne: yes could set up a seperate cloud for that topic john
Grainne: sounds great john
Sylvia Currie: Ah! A field trip cloud
Grainne: yes of course Sylvia
Gerry: An hour is about as much as people can afford time-wise.
Bron: my head is always in the clouds - now I can endorse a strategy for it
Grainne: thanks for the great questions - really enjoyed it!
Kristina: thank you very much for this great enthusiastic presentation, Grainne
John Smith: thanks!
Grainne: see u all in the clouds!
Gerry: Take care.
Helen Walmsley: Thanks, very interesting and impressive!
