Yes! And if you search #SinglePointRubric on twitter there's a gold mine of examples.

The Cult of Pedagogy article took me on a fun journey this morning. I can sure relate to this Your Rubric is a Hot Mess article! Dreaming up ways to say someone is doing sloppy, shallow work is not fun. And anyway, why are we doing that?

Thanks for sharing this, Tara. I'm busy adding these resources to our compilation of Tools & Resources.

Now... your first year rubric example is fascinating. I need to spend more time on it, and want to also give others an opportunity to chime in. My quick question is, should 'standard' outline what it looks like to be proficient?

With MicroCourses we just jump right in. Let's do this! puddle

Almost everything you need is in the Activity Packet.

Today is all about the research phase: steps 1 - 6. The recommended timeframe for completion is, gulp, today! Don't worry, some of it is quite light, and mostly requires solo pondering and reflection.

Thanks to everyone who posted a quick hello over the weekend! Drop a comment or two if you feel compelled.

The FLO MicroCourse, Creating and using rubrics, runs for five days beginning Monday, September 17th. There are 27 of us so far, representing 9 BC public post-secondary institutions and several private organizations.

Feeling ambitious?

We aim to keep MicroCourses trim and practical. However, we recognize that this might be your first online course, or first time using Moodle. If you're spending too much time getting oriented, send a quick email to Sylvia Currie (scurrie@bccampus.ca). Happy to help!

We look forward to learning all about rubrics with you in the week ahead. Thanks for joining us!

Your facilitators,

Jacquie Harrison (VCC)

Bettina Boyle (CapU)

Sylvia Currie (BCcampus)

Thank you so much for your active and rich participation in our first FLO MicroCourse this past week! You were productive and generous with sharing your process and we all learn from that. The promise was that you would leave this course with:

  1. new ideas and skills for creating personable and informative course introductory videos, and
  2. a first prototype, with feedback

Many of you achieved that and then some! Even if you didn't quite make it to the cutting room, you're no doubt better equipped to get you there.

This course will remain available to you so feel free to revisit or catch up on what you missed. An OER version of the course for you to copy/download to offer at your own institution will be available by the end of the month.

Before you leave...

Please complete the FLO MicroCourse Feedback survey this week. We listen and refine FLO course design and facilitation based on this feedback.

Our next MicroCourse will be September 17 - 21. Sign up for BCcampus Newsletter  to stay in the loop!

Donna, this layered approach is a great idea. Separating out the personal introduction as a way to kick off course introductions from all participants is a personal preference.

For others who have not seen Flipgrid in action, I highly recommend you check it out for ease of use. It's similar to VoiceThread if you were ever part of that era when it was offered for free and very popular.

Love the photo! The photo I've used for (gulp!) 10 years was taken by a young and short person as well. :)
