Thank you so much for your active and rich participation in our first FLO MicroCourse this past week! You were productive and generous with sharing your process and we all learn from that. The promise was that you would leave this course with:

  1. new ideas and skills for creating personable and informative course introductory videos, and
  2. a first prototype, with feedback

Many of you achieved that and then some! Even if you didn't quite make it to the cutting room, you're no doubt better equipped to get you there.

This course will remain available to you so feel free to revisit or catch up on what you missed. An OER version of the course for you to copy/download to offer at your own institution will be available by the end of the month.

Before you leave...

Please complete the FLO MicroCourse Feedback survey this week. We listen and refine FLO course design and facilitation based on this feedback.

Our next MicroCourse will be September 17 - 21. Sign up for BCcampus Newsletter  to stay in the loop!

Your grateful FLO facilitators,

Sylvia & Robin

Your videos are so fun to watch! Such variety and thoughtful peer feedback!

Kaltura has presented some challenges for us, but we're getting there! I took some screenshots as I was testing to create these instructions for uploading and embedding in the forum. This is the first time we've used it on this Moodle site, so if you're wondering who missed a few steps in the set up it was ME! And if you want to know who saved he day it was ROBIN! This is why I love co-facilitating. :)

You've certainly demonstrated that 10 steps in 5 days is possible. The day is young and we fully expect a spill over into the weekend. In other words, don't feel it's too late to share your video!

Your facilitators,

Sylvia and Robin

In this course we have Kaltura set up for uploading and embedding your video into forum posts. These 8 slides (opens in new browser window) give you step by step instructions on how to use Kaltura.

Note: The advantage of using Kaltura is that it will convert your video so that it can be viewed on any type of computer. Use of Kaltura is optional. You are welcome to upload your video to any service (e.g. YouTube). Or in some cases the service will host the video for you (e.g. Adobe Sparks)

By now you've probably...

  • reviewed some good (and bad!) examples of intro videos
  • thought about what you would like to include in YOUR video, and maybe even sketched out a script?
  • fiddled with some tools to try, out or made a decision to stick with what's at hand
  • scouted out a good recording environment
  • perhaps even done a trial run?

That would bring you up to Step 7!  Right on track!

Your facilitators,

Sylvia & Robin

Welcome to our first MicroCourse! Our adventures begin!

Our time this week will pass by quickly, so jump right in NOW. Here are some suggestions for today:

  1. Take a few minutes to read the MicroCourse Handbook - it's just some general information about MicroCourses
  2. Look at the Activity Packet - It contains recommended steps for creating your video, along with a link to the (growing) list of tools. You'll be referring to this often.
  3. Begin working through the steps. The sooner you get to Step 6 the better!
  4. Check our intro videos in the Sharing and Feedback forum. Who would you rather take a course from? ;-)

Our first tip for you: Bandwidth challenged? Jot some notes about what you would like to include in your intro video while waiting for other videos to load.

Your facilitators,
Sylvia Currie and Robin Leung
