We're heading into week 2 of our Educational Development series so I thought I should post a quick recap on what happened last week. Links to session recordings and any background readings are are updated in the forum description.

I jotted down the responses to Nancy's kick-off question:

What does educational development mean to you?

  • Faculty engaging in in reflective practice with a view to improving student learning.
  • Sharing: wisdom, resources, research
  • Support and guidance for faculty
  • Learning opportunities that enhance the student experience (faculty do learning).
  • Incremental change to teaching practice based on learning theory

Here are the slides:

Thanks to everyone who participated, and special thanks to Heather Kincaid, our co-op student from Simon Fraser University, for moderating!

We're kicking off a new 3-week series today. Please join Nancy Randall for a discussion to engage faculty, educational developers, and administrators in conversations about educational structures and practices for professional development in higher education.

Each week we will host a web conference in Blackboard Collaborate (http://urls.bccampus.ca/scopeevents) at 2 different times to accommodate schedules. The times listed are PST.

  1. Educational Development Models and Dimensions | 15 May 10:00  and 17 May 13:00

  3. Campus-Based Professional Learning Directions | 29 May 10:00 and 31 May 13:00
In addition we will be posting exerpts from the study to anchor the discussion each week. The first 2 will be helpful for the sessions this week:
