When my daughter was 10 months old, I was getting both of us ready to leave the house when I realized that our cat hadn't come back inside the house yet. I said to the baby, "We need to get going. Where's that kitty?"
My daughter looked up from her toy, made intense eye contact and said her first sentence: "She Dead."
As she spoke, I heard scratching on the door, which is how the cat usually let us know she wanted to come inside. I walked to the door, saying, "She's not dead, she's right --."
As I opened the door, a giant racoon reared up at me and snarled. It tried to barge into the house. I screamed and slammed the door. For about 20 minutes, until the cat finally responded to my calls and sauntered back into the house, I was convinced that a) the cat was dead and b) my baby was psychic.
Here is the raccoon in question, sitting nonchalantly on the roof across from our side door. (Fun fact: raccoons designate one area as a neighbourhood bathroom, and the roof across for our side door was a great big raccoon potty).
